The Chinese Filipino is a subculture...never fully Pinoy, never fully Chinese. We have our own unique set of traditions modified from those set by our forefathers. We embrace both cultures and try to INTEGRATE.

The Graduate
My little boy just had a major milestone last week. He graduated from Kindergarten! I know that other people may think we're OA for being very happy about this, but we can't help it! We're parents after all, and every achievement is magnified in our eyes. The culminating activity was held in the L

What summer lessons?
I'm quite at a loss on what to enroll my kid in this summer. His grades are fine. I do not really like him to undergo more academics during the summer vacation, as I believe this should be his break from them. As with most kids his age, his interests vary widely and shifts around quite a lot too.

My brother the music fan
My brother is a big music fan. I do enjoy music, but not to the level of my brother. He stores music in his phone and plays it whenever he can. He collects guitars, buying some he fancies and selling some of them when needed. He actually has Fender Amps in his room. When he tells me that he got

Condo that's near or house that's far
The problem with being here in Metro Manila is the sense that it's becoming very crowded that it's really not easy finding an ideal family house with the proverbial picket fences, lawn with flowering plants and wind spinners unless you have a lot of money to burn. Which most people don't. That's wh

To Tagaytay this summer break
My little boy is asking...nay, demanding that we go to Tagaytay this summer! He said he'd like to ride the cable car. He'd also like to ride the horse again (actually just a pony with a name like John Lloyd or Diego). Somehow I can't imagine my little boy in equestrian clothing and jumping his "h

Medical computerization
Back when I was still training in Medical School, we had to lug around portable typewriters in order to make our charts -- admitting forms, requests for x-rays and workups, discharge summaries etc. I do see the wisdom in that, because our handwriting was so much more difficult to read when we had t

Yoga
Yoga is one of the latest fitness crazes to hit Manila (well, it's not that new, but more and more people are into it). I wish I could squeeze it into my schedule because I really think I need to do something for myself. My aunt actually teaches yoga so I've asked her about classes but it seems th

Dragon Year
Chinese New Year came early, and thank goodness, it finally is a holiday in the Philippines. People are talking about 2012 as it was a Year of the Dragon, which traditionally meant a "good" year. A lot of people seem to think that if they invest in something, like say buy gold bars or stocks this

Deviation
My husband has been wanting a new watch for quite a while, and while some of those citizen watches are not really that expensive, I feel hard pressed to buy him one, because we seem to have different tastes in watches. Also, we put almost all our money in our common family fund, so getting money to

Thoughts of a pack rat
My husband and I were starting to look at the latest laptops a few months ago. That's because our old one is showing some problems, and we think we might be needing to change it soon. But, practicality set in and we just decided to go with our trusty 5 year old laptop after doing the necessary rep
