Trials
It is clear that foreign terrorists and terrorist groups have committed acts of war against the United States, and that our national security requires that we respond accordingly. This means that President Bush’s prudent actions and the military response which he led should continue as our answer to these attacks.Congress overwhelmingly reaffirmed their commitment to military commissions in 2006, which have historically been the way that we respond to acts of war. To abandon our two centuries of tradition and to substitute some new civilian procedure as a response to such attacks endangers the security of our country and our national interest. It was a tragic mistake to decide to abandon t
Why?
Haven't had anything to say for a while. The health care battle is a mess and the Obama administration needs to stop it. Why do they think they are the only ones who know what is needed? And then we have Afghanistan. We do we never learn? We are insisting on the Afghans becoming a democracy. Why? Their culture and religion don't support a democratic form of government. And who are we to say we are right? You know the first few decades in this country as a democracy weren't easy. Besides I thought we were rooting out and destroying the taliban, not changing an entire countries way of life. Why do we always think our way is better? We thought democracy in Vietnam was the way to go

Article I, Section 9, of the Constitution, the emolument clause, clearly stipulates: "And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State."The five-member Nobel commission is elected by the Storting, the parliament of Norway. There is no doubt that the Nobel Peace Prize is an "emolument" ("gain from employment or position," according to Webster). An opinion of the U.S. attorney general advised, in 1902, t
Promises Not Being Kept
Throughout his campaign, and even in to the first few months in office, President Barack Obama repeatedly promised the American people that his health care plan would reduce their health insurance premiums by $2,500 a year. It has been a while since President Obama made that promise, and any honest look at the health legislation being considered in Congress explains why.The Senate Finance Committee bill written by Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) (the Baucus bill) first drives up the cost of health insurance for all Americans and then forces everyone to buy it or face tax penalties or jail time. While the Baucus bill does cap out-of-pocket costs based on a person’s income, the effect on A
Carter...Gore...Obama...who's next, Oprah??
President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision. The Nobel Peace Prize is not the Nobel Intentions Prize. Past winners have risked life, freedom and their families to deliver world change. Former Polish President Lech Walesa, Mother Theresa, Andrei Sakharov, Anwar Sadat, Theodore Roosevelt. All people who met Alfred Nobel’s criteria for being honored by the Nobel Prize. The Nobel Prize committee should have given President Obama the opportunity to meet these weighty expectations rather than diminish past achievements with a public relations award. In his 1895 will, Alfred Nobel stipulated that the peace prize should go "to the person who shall have d
