| Description: |
Political conversation from a progressively conservative point of view and beyond, organized into (sometimes not so) neat paragraphs on the interwebs. Vigorous discussion and commenting is welcomed and encouraged. You don't need to agree with the opinions expressed or reveal who you are--anonymous, dissenting posts are allowed, but it would be nice if those who post anonymous dissent would be thoughtful and substantive in their opinions and critique. |

Our Government Is Really Full Of Zilches
BY KEVIN KARCHA few months ago, I was challenged by a friend who has asked to remain nameless, because we live in an age of internet paranoia, where we all throw ourselves out there on Facebook, Myspace, and so on, but at the same time, we must hide aspects of our lives to gain employment and preserve the image we'd like to project to superiors and our peers, to "do something" about the problems I see in our political system. I took this nameless individual's challenge to heart, and I wrote the congressman of my district in Minnesota, Erik Pa
We Can’t Bring Them Home by Kate Baird
Prescript by Kevin Karch: I want this blog to represent many points of view, so that it is a discussion. That being said, here is a thoughtful article written by a former classmate of mine, Kate Baird. I thank Kate for her contribution, along with Brent Paulson for the 2 articles that he's contributed. Feel free to comment on this or any other article on this blog, and without further ado, here is Kate's article. "We Can't Bring Them Home"—Kate Baird It isn't enough that we complain of the spending that our government does in our name to maintain our military presence around the world, or to highlight the obvious wise
George Washington Said it Best, Political Parties Stink
By Kevin KarchI've been awfully busy as of late, and I'd like to thank Brent Paulson for contributing some well-thought articles to this blog. I've still been keeping my eyes carefully glued to the news, and one thing sticks out: we live in a YOUR GUYS vs. MY GUYS world in the United States. The battle of one political party vs. the other political party rules the day. There is little to no concern for actual objective problem solving on the part of most politicians and most of the public who elects them--looking at the problems our nation faces and actually looking for the best solution to solve the problem instead of pushing a political agenda on behal
The Roots and the Tree of Revolution: From Woodrow Wilson and Saul Alinsky to the Obama Whitehouse
By Brent Paulsen January 15, 2009.…”We are five days away from fundamentally changing this country.” Mr. Obama said those words to supporters during a series of speeches he gave as then President-Elect leading up to his Inauguration on January 20, 2009. These seemingly innocent words at the time seemed like an appropriate way to describe his upcoming presidency; after all America had heard all about “change” for the last 18 months. For those following the campaign and getting their news once a day at 5:30 from ABC,CBS, or NBC there is nothing alarming by that statement. In fact, even “news junkies” who also watch the cable programs probably w
R.I.P. Modern American Journalism 1938-2009
BY BRENT PAULSONIn 1938 an unknown son of Quakers was in Poland to arrange a broadcast of children’s choruses when word came down of Hitler’s annexation of Austria. When it was found out that the story could not go out over the Austrian airways, this man sent William Shirer, another journalist, to London to broadcast the first hand accounts of what Hitler’s regime was doing. This man then took Shirer’s place in Vienna to give live updates from the scene. On March 13, 1938 this famous broadcast went over the airways for the new CBS World News Roundup; “This is Edward Murrow speaking from Vienna…It is now 2:30 in the morning and
