Description: I've had this debate many times about Hymns and how they are no longer relevant. But what I don’t understand is how one can read a Hymn as a believer and think that. As I am studying the history of Hymns in hopes of someday maybe even writing my own Hymns for the church. But most importantly understanding the root and the history behind some of the worlds most famous Hymns; I came to a conclusion that it is true God does speak to us all in many different way and I completely understand that the way God reached me, may not be the way he will reach you. That makes perfect sense because He made us as individuals, so therefore we are reached by God in different ways. My only debate, argument or whatever you want to call it, (although I call it a problem), is when I read some of these lyrics I just can’t understand how a believer can’t receive anything from it. It has some of the most profound literature about our faith, our God, and salvation since the Bible. I read this stuff just studying it and I can’t help but to get in a mood of worship whilst studying. Now for non believers I can understand why you may or may not get it. But to my fellow believer I just don’t understand it, all I can come up with is we were created to follow differently, but that’s just not enough for me. So what I decided to do is share with you all from time to time some Hymns but with a little poetry from myself before the Hymn and below will be the Hymn of choice in (“ “). As well as the a little history on the Hymn and the writer. I myself was a bit shocked to learn some of the things I’ve been learning about these Hymns. I was going to start with “Amazing Grace” but I figured that most people know that story already and I wanted to give people something new and fresh in my view. The poetry I write about the Hymn is just what I got from it and how it touched my heart or even just my understanding of it. I’m not expecting everyone to agree with me at all, I just wanted to share my thoughts and hopefully through this I could be ministering to others. They will not always be this long I just wanted to explain and introduce what I’m doing. Please feel free to comment I would love feed back if you agree or disagree it doesn’t matter I want to know what your thinking and it could be further help in my research and understanding. As always with much love Yusuf A. Tillery!
