Tattooed Under Fire and other Thoughts on Body Art
I've had a lifelong fascination with tattoos.  My 7 uncles had them on their forearms as symbols of being in WWII (my dad was in the war also, but no ink).I tried getting my first tattoo at age 15.  I had a friend who lived in Berkeley so I flew up there and went to several tattoo shops but they all wanted an ID saying I was 18.  Drats.  I had to wait few more years to get my first one, a simple dolphin on the outside of my left ankle - paid the guy with a six pack of Michelob.  That was in 1980, I was 19.Back then it was shocking for a female to have a tattoo, hardly any males had them unless they fell into one of these categories:  bik
